This has to be by far one of the most inspirational quotations I have ever heard. Hands down. No lie.
First off, I need to give my gorgeous Mother credit for first telling me about this quotation. I had never heard it before and, like Mother's do best, she spoke the words to me exactly when I needed to hear them most. Thanks Mama :) <3 xox
The quotation originates from Elie Wiesel, a strong, courageous man who was lucky to survive The Nazi Holocaust. He was a young boy when Hitler's troops came into his town, into the place he had called home, and forced his friends, his neighbours, and his family from their homes against their will. They were taken away, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, on trains which promised them safety for in exchange for their compliance, but that could not have been farther from the truth.
Those trains then made a long and agonizing trip towards Auschwitz... one of the worst concentration camps during this horrible moment in history...
I'm positive many of you have heard the horrible story of the Nazi Holocaust in one way or another, but if I can recommend ONE BOOK you read in your lifetime, it would be the personal memoir of Elie Wiesel, entitled "Night"... I will leave the further reading up to you, but I would like to direct your attention to a few of his empowering words, spoken by him at a news conference:
"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference" - Elie Wiesel
For me, it is the first line of this quotation that has inspired me, driven my love and passion, and kept my head held high through the hard times in my love life. And I don't want to get all deep on anyone... Not too deep anyway, teehee. But I do encourage you all to sit back and think about his words.
People change, we fall in and out of love throughout our lives, but we do not truly hate others... we become indifferent. We grow each and everyday, at times together and at others apart. But that does NOT mean that we begin to hate those who do not follow a similar path. This quotation has gotten me through the "anger" and "denial" phases of a breakup, you know, the ones where you cry and yell and scream and curse... Recalling this quote has helped me forget all of those emotions and be happy standing on my own two feet :) Go ahead... try it!
Secondly, the final line of this quotation... it moves me beyond words! Life may become difficult, it is nearly inevitable that it will, and most of us will never see the indifference that begins to take over our lives. Live life to it's fullest, never become complacent or indifferent, and be aware that things will get better, regardless of how empty they seem at the time.
And NEVER forget to Stay Beautiful,
- Kisses and Curls, xox
PS. I challenge you:
To accept that love may turn to indifference, but to never allow your view on life to do the same <3
